James Barnett is a filmmaker and photographer based in the United Kingdom. His work combines observational documentary with carefully crafted visual storytelling, finding humour and humanity in everyday life. Barnett has produced work for Vogue, the BBC, UK Gov and the National Trust. In 2007, Barnett began a documentary project about his parents, Teresa and Michael, and 18 years later, is still documenting. In early 2023, Barnett began sharing some of this archive on TikTok and Instagram where he's since grown a community of well over half a million followers and reached a global audience of more than 100 million views. The 'When My Parents' series has since been featured on It's Nice That, and in February 2024, Barnett gave a talk about what it's like recording content with his parents to an audience of 700 people at a Nicer Tuesdays event held at EartH in Dalston. In 2026, Barnett is looking for new stories to tell across his platforms.
