Pablo Pajarito Fajardo is a master potter from Tonalá, Jalisco, and belongs to a family that has been dedicated to working with clay for five generations. His tradition has its roots in El Rosario, one of Tonalá’s communities where barro canelo pottery has been passed down from generation to generation. The son of master potter Nicasio Pajarito, Pablo learned the craft within his own family and developed his work around barro canelo, a technique characteristic of the region. Throughout his career, he has sought to preserve this tradition while developing his own identity through his pieces, using natural pigments and clays from the region. His work has received various awards and has been exhibited in cultural institutions, including the Museo Tamayo. He has also participated in exhibitions and competitions dedicated to Mexican pottery and traditional crafts. At the 4th Pottery and Ceramics Competition of Museo La Esquina, he won first place with a burnished barro canelo piece decorated with Tonaltecan iconography. Pablo’s work is part of the continuity of a family tradition for which El Rosario remains one of its main points of reference. His practice combines the preservation of inherited techniques with a personal exploration of barro canelo, contributing to the continued vitality of this traditional craft heritage of Tonalá.
