Ratna, a famous Kannada novelist who is also known by her pen name Saisute, is a well-known Kannada novelist. Originally from Kolar, she was born on August 20, 1942. After getting married at the age of 17, she also developed a passion for literature after her husband Ashwathnarayan lost interest in literature. She developed a habit of reading the works of senior writers. Inspired by reading, she started with short poems and later started writing novels. Rajatadriya Kanasu, Sammilana, Badada Hoo, Anupallavi, Himagiriya Naavilu, Belli Doni, Bhava Sarovara etc. are some of her popular novels. Her children’s literature and short stories like ‘Papacchi’ and others have been published in renowned magazines. Several of Saisute’s stories including ‘Baada Hoovu’, ‘Midida Shruti’, ‘Swetha Gulabi’ have been made into films. She was honored with the 2018 Honorary Award of the Karnataka Sahitya Academy for her contribution to the field of literature. She has received dozens of awards, including the Danachintamani Attimabbe Memorial Award and the Kannada Shri Award at the Belagavi Sahitya Sammelana.
