Valeria Díaz

She enrolled in the National School of Cinematographic Arts (ENAC-UNAM) in 2018 and has since been active in the film industry as a screenwriter and director. Her short documentary "Oh butterfly, what do you dream of when you flap your wings?" (2020) was part of the official selection at the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) and was a semifinalist at the Student Academy Awards. Her fiction short film Qualia (2020) was selected for the Monterrey International Film Festival and won Best Fiction Short Film and Best Script categories at the Pantalla de Cristal Awards. In 2021, she received support from IMCINE's (Mexican Film Institute) "Screenwriting and Project Development Grant" for the writing of the documentary script "Ossis", under the mentorship of filmmaker Lucía Gajá. In 2023, she premiered her second fiction short film "Wild Chrysanthemums between the pages of my journal I put a flower" (2023) at Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI). The film received the Best Film Award in the National Competition at the Transmutation Contemporary Film Festival. That same year, she wrote her first feature-length fiction script, "Little Butterflies", once again supported by IMCINE and mentored by filmmaker Lila Avilés. She is currently developing "Little Butterflies" at the “First Feature Workshop of the National School of Cinematographic Arts 2026”, while writing "TOMODACHI", her second feature-length fiction script. With this project, she participated in the “Certificate in Film Project Development from Feminist Perspectives” organized by Estudios Churubusco, Mujeres Lab, Canal Once, and PROCINE in Mexico (2024), as well as in the “Vanguardia: Film Project Incubator” of the 28th Ícaro International Film Festival in Guatemala.
