Content: Autumn 1945. Virginia, a war widow, moves into the home of Sandrino, a young man who fought in the conflict between partisans and Fascists. A spontaneous friendship develops between the two, soon blossoming into a desperate love. Sandrino feels increasingly suffocated by the woman's obsessive attachment, eventually going so far as to steal her money. It is not so much his encounter with a young woman who wants to help him get back on the right track, but rather the widow's suicide, that drives Sandrino to a final crisis and leads him to realize the full extent of his wrongdoing.
