(Yadasht Bar Zamin)

Content: A crazed child-murderer who kills in the name of God becomes a symbol condemning religious fanaticism and violence in Ali Mohammad Ghasemi's visually imaginative but exasperating feature bow, "Writing on the Earth." Ghasemi's roots as a cameraman and film editor emerge as the strongest components of this expressionist work, which boldly strays from the usual low-key Iranian artfilm style. (Variety)
